I almost never finish any VNs I start reading because I am a lazy and impatient fuck, so in most cases I quiet the VN midway and end up reading the plot summary on the net. If only the VN-specific elements were done badly, then your response would be correct, but because it was the actual story, which is not VN unique, which was done badly, we can compare it to stories from other mediums and say "yes, compared to these other stories, this story gets far more praise than it deserves".
